The Actors Guild of Parkersburg’s fundraiser this year is “A Night of Dancing with the Stars”! They have several couples practicing for the Feb 11th competition. After the dancers compete, there will be time set aside for voting. During this time, the Actors Guild is looking for exhibition dancers to entertain the crowd. If you would like to dance at this time, please contact Nancy Miller at NancyMillersEmail@Gmail.com. You can choose a song and practice a dance. You can choose to dance alone, or share your song with all the volunteer dancers. Mark and I may do a waltz, but haven’t picked out a song yet. We will definitely share the song so everyone who is interested will join us. After the voting and exhibition dancing, the floor will be open to everyone to dance.

Dance couples have been selected for the Actors Guild of Parkersburg’s “A Night of Dancing with the Stars” fundraiser Feb. 11 at the Parkersburg Art Center. Parkersburg’s version of the TV show “Dancing with the Stars” will feature the following celebrities first and their professional dance partners next: Reinnie Leavitt and Bob Heflin, Ronnie Talbott and Morgan Heflin, Lee Rector and Michele Johnston-Weaver, Bob Newell and Aurora Held, Scott Eckels and Allison Cullen, Mike Cameron and Katie Cheuvront, and Allison Rhea and Bill Snider. Tickets for the 7 p.m. event are $25 each or $40 for a couple and can be purchased in advance atwww.actorsguildonline.org. The public can vote by donation for their favorite dance couple before the competition (after Feb. 1) by using the Actors Guild’s website and at the dance, said Robin White, event spokesman. The night will include exhibition dancing, an open dance floor, food and drinks.

Oldies Dance – Friday Jan 13, American Legion in Parkersburg

The Mov Shag Club is holding an “Oldies Dance” on Friday, Jan 13th at the American Legion in Parkersburg.

Here’s the note from the Shag Club:
Shag Club members will get in free, Legion members will get in free and other interested dancers will pay $2.00 each at the door. Randy will be spinning the tunes and we will not do any instruction this week. We are doing this hoping to help the American Legion, they have been so nice to us and we hope to bring in some new people and help support them. I am hoping that our members might be able to invite some of those friends and neighbors who might enjoy a night dancing and maybe we can even recruit some new people who have never seen Carolina Shag. Randy will be playing a mix of music but lots of it will be appropriate for Shag along with various other types of dancing. So if you have some friends or maybe family who never can make a Thursday dance maybe you can get them out for a Friday night. It would be very nice to have a good turnout and I hope we can make this successful to show our appreciation for the Legion. See you on the dance floor

P. S. Just a reminder that if you want to attend our “Pinin’ for Summer” Dance Jan. 27th and 28th at the Parkersburg Country Club. You need to get your ticket orders in, we are limiting sales to 80 and you don’t want to be left out. The Country Club did a great job last year, we have hot hors d’oeuvers on Friday night and a lesson from Kevin and Dee Saturday afternoon and a nice dinner on Saturday night. Flyers are on our website, movshaggers.com and they have the order forms on them. We had a great time last year and hope to build on that this year. Come out and join us.

Dance Directory

I’m working on a dance directory, and plan to have a copy for each table at tomorrow’s Tempo Club dance. Mark and I thought this would be a good way for everyone at the dances to get to know each other better – and remembering names is always the toughest part!

I took some pictures at one of the River Cities dances last season, and a bunch at last months Tempo dance. If you didn’t get your picture taken and have one you can share for the printed directory, please email to me at: NancyMillersEmail@gmail.com If I get the picture tonight, they will be included in the print out. Please make sure you include your first and last names. If you have any pictures of you and your dance partner, that would be the best. I’m including pretty much just head/shoulder shots, but I will crop it down if I need to.

It will always be a work in process and I will continue to add pictures and names as I get them. So, if you can’t get to it tonight, and I haven’t taken a picture of you recently, please still send them to me.

This info concerns a good opportunity to practice your ballroom dance steps, on the last Sun. afternoon in January, & your input is needed. Our hope is that you will respond to Rita Lamp soon; she and another ballroom dance enthusiast wish to offer dance music by George Hall (keyboardist) at the Shrine Club in Belpre on January 29, 2012. They have a room and the rate for George. In trying to get a feel for how many would be attending, in order to set a price at the door, they ask you to respond to the questions below. If you think you would be interested in going on a Sunday afternoon on the last Sunday in January to the Shrine Club in Belpre (which has a wooden floor), e-mail Rita Lamp at highnoon25@msn.com or call her in the afternoons at 304 580-0456. Right now they need to know 3 things:

#1 Would you come? (If 15 couples attend, the price would need to be approx. $24 per couple. Price is still being decided dependent on numbers attending.)

#2 Do you want to bring your own drinks or food if the Shrine allowed it?

#3 Do you want food & beverages provided if you paid additionally for it? If so, what kind of food …. snacks, drinks, burgers, sandwiches, or regular meals?

This Saturday Night, dance to the music of the 16-piece Simcox Big Band on a spacious 6,400 sq. ft. wood floor.

Location: Wayside United Methodist Church 3001 Grand Central Ave, Vienna WV 26015

Time: 7:30 – 10:30 p.m.

Dues: $200/year (includes 5-6 dances)

Refreshments: Members are invited to bring snacks and non-alcoholic beverages. No smoking or alcohol is allowed.

Black Tie Invited: tuxedo or jacket and tie for the gentleman, formal or cocktail dress for the lady

Visitors: Couples may attend any number of dances for a charge of $50/couple per dance. A couple may attend one dance as a guest of a current member for a discounted admission of $40.

Bill Held’s Dance Lessons begin Monday, Nov 28th!

Holiday Sessions begin this week (Monday), with Parkersburg & Marietta classes combining at the Parkersburg location (St.Paul’s United Methodist Church, corner of 11th & Market St). Ballroom I will begin at 5:45 PM, Ballroom II at 6:50 PM, and Workshop at 7:55 PM. Bill & Sue have been working on the content for these classes, and plan to teach Polka & Swing steps to all level classes the first 2 Mondays.

“We will be working on Polka and Swing (and review as requested) in the Holiday sessions for the first two weeks. We have a lot of Swing and Polka steps and technique for all the classes. We have worked all day putting together the lists and working on the steps. The Polka steps will be very nice because they can be used as a “ballroom” Polka or a “Barroom”, whatever the situation requires.” - Bill
